Does God Really Love Porn Stars? or Doesn’t God Care That I Don’t Sin Like That!!!????

Does God love Porn stars? I’m not trying to be hyperbolic with you; I sincerely want to know your opinion. I skim a few blogs here and there. A few months ago I watched one disparaging the video site that many consider to be a “knock off” of youtube. He had some fairly pointed things to say about the site. What set me thinking about this post was the fact that most of the comments sent his way dealt with his T shirt, which said “God Loves Porn Stars.” Many people were very offended by that idea. Many people had some moderately angry jabs to send his way.churchsign.jpg

But it does beg a question doesn’t it? Does GOD LOVE PORN STARS????? Could this really be true? Can people who engage in an act that so many people find repulsive really be loved by a Holy God?

The answer is so simple, so obvious that I almost cannot believe I have to say it, but after reading those comments and seeing other comments in this wonderful whacky thing we call the blogosphere, I believe I am compelled to answer the question. The answer is a resounding yes. God does love porn stars. I’ll follow up with something else that I believe will many peoples undies in a bunch, God loves porn stars as much as he loves any preacher, Sunday school teacher or gentle old lady that was married to the same person for over 75 years. God loves porn stars as much as he loves you. God loves porn stars as much as he loves me.

God died for those people just like he died for you and me. The real heart of the matter is we believe somehow we can do something will cause God to love us more. If we can get our theology just so, if we can make sure that we “contend” for the faith with enough passion we can somehow convince God to forget those sins that no one (except our family) knows about. Somehow, if we read enough “devotions” and do enough pious things we can cause God to love us more.

Conversely, we believe that God loves us less when we sin. So if he loves us less when we sin, he must really not love the person engaged in blatant immorality. The idea of God’s love being unconditional just doesn’t add up in our minds. Sure, most of us give it the lip service that it is due, but we don’t actually believe it we scoff at people who do. I believe it is God’s unconditional love for sinners that is so scandalous. Consider the story of the Prodigal Son, isn’t the older brother essentially saying, “You can’t love him the same way you loved me!”?

Moses was a murder, Noah was a drunk, Abraham pimped his sister, Jacob couldn’t tell the truth if his life depended on it, Samson was promiscuous punk, Joshua was scared, Rahab was a prostitute whore, Peter was an egotistical jerk, Paul was a murderer, and yet God not only loved these people, He redeemed them! He accomplished great things through them for His glory. Why? What did they do that was so special? The answer is a simple nothing.

God loves us because He is God not because of anything we have or have not done. Do I condone what Porn Stars do? Absolutely not, but I will not stand and shout down condemnation from Heaven for them either. God will judge them as He will judge me. I will share the truth with them. Part of that truth is that God loves them and that he calls me to love them.

Jesus was always creating scandals by who He was eating with. I believe if Jesus lived today he would be having dinner with the very people the church seems to love to scream about. I don’t see Jesus with gleam in his saying, “Someday you will rot in Hell.” Sadly, I’ve seen Christians say those things to people they have been called to love by a Holy God.

We need to put to bed this idea that by loving someone we are condoning what they are doing. Jesus’ entire life was lived differently than that. God’s love for us works on a completely different paradigm. He loves us even when we sin. The truth is that it is only by the grace of God that you and I are not porn stars.

I know some are going to be howling mad by that thought and though I have thought about many passages of Scripture to support these thoughts, I want to close with a line from an age old hymn.

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That sav’d a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,

—John Newton, in the hymn, Amazing Grace

  1. Joe, thanks for the great post.

It is amazing to me how some Christians can be so judgemental. It seems that we tend to forget just where we were when God saw fit to save us from ourselves.

  3. Good point, that leaves us to the next question. Did Jesus actually love Pharisees too? Does He love the judgemental Christians?

  4. I can’t imagine God not loving porn stars, because God doesn’t love any of us for what we’ve done…we don’t earn his love and forgiveness. His love is unconditional.

This doesn’t mean that He is pleased with their actions. Anyone who has kids knows that you can love someone and yet disapprove of their behavior.

  5. Romans 9:13, “As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.”

God is Love! That is true, but He also hates. His Holy wrath and hatred will be on all those who reject His Son.
Christ did not die for everybody in this world. He died for the sins of His people! If He died for everybody then everybody would be saved. We do not know who God’s elect are so we must love everybody by telling them the gospel message of Jesus Christ. And that includes porn stars.

  6. OH, Ike, Thanks so much for bringing the Calvinist perspective in. I completely disagree with you and think you are completely wrong. I think your ignoring whole passages of Scripture and maybe even misinterpreting that passage, but thanks for coming by.

  7. Ike,

I find your comment…”Christ did not die for everybody in this world. He died for the sins of His people!”…very disturbing.

What about this scripture…”For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,[a] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. (John 3:16-18)

The Calvinistic thought always amazes me because it takes one of God’s great gifts away from man…free will.

  8. Jimmy,

If Christ died for everyone’s sins, no one would go to hell.

Christ’s death was sufficient for ALL but only EFFECTIVE for His elect.

  9. Jimmy’
I never thought of myself as a calvinist? Man does have a free will. And you are correct in saying Christ died for all. What I was saying is the Bible says that the way is narrow and “FEW” will find it. Also, in the same chapter of Matthew (7) it explains who the few are. They are NOT all the people who claim Jesus as Lord and then you compare them with the rest of the world and they are the “few”. It says that many who say Lord Lord will not enter in. This means that of all the people who claim Him as Lord……of these people……only a few will enter His kingdom.
As far as taking away one of man’s greatest gifts (free-will)…..I don’t say that but you cannot deny that Scripture is clear that man in his sinful state has no ability OR desire to worship God. Just the opposite. That is why salvation is all about the supernatural empowering of the Holy spirit through the preaching of the Gospel to enable a person to repent and believe. If you think salvation is merely a puny human decision to jump out of the line going to hell in order to get in the line that is going to heaven………….you are wrong.

  10. Wow…did I ever say that salvation is “merely a puny human decision”? Did I ever deny that man is in a sinful state? The answer….NO!

If a DECISION is not involved…then why does the scripture put such an emphasis on reaching out to the lost?

Josh…according to scripture God desires that no one would be lost…look it up…it’s there.

  11. 2 Salient Passages of the Text
    Colossians 1

For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

Now, the Greek here is fascinating, the word all literally means all.
Then there is this verse in I John

He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for[a] the sins of the whole world.

Once again the Greek for the word “whole” here is fascinating. It literally means, “whole”

  12. Great point Joe.

And thank you for Greek translations of all and whole. It’s one of those ‘whodathunkit’ moments! 🙂

    Peace

  13. Jimmy,

You’re absolutely right! God desireds no one to perish. However, God is just. He must punish the sinner. Again, if Christ died and paid the price for everyone’s sins, no one could go to hell. It would be double jeopardy. Christ’s death was sufficient for all(the world) but only effective for those that put their faith in Him alone. In John Jesus clearly states “I lay my life down for my sheep.” Jesus did not say, “I lay my life down for the sheep AND the goats.”

Also note when Jesus says clearly, “You believe because you are my sheep.” Most churches today will preach the opposite, “You are my sheep because you believe.”

It’s all about the work of God.

I know limited atonement is a tough subject for some people. But there is no way around it….if Christ died for everyone’s sins, no one would go to hell.

  14. Josh…I think we are getting twisted up in wording…there no doubt HAS to be belief, repentance and acceptance for salvation…Christ died that none should perish.

I find the story of David interesting…especially when the prophet is calling David down because of what he had done to Bathsheba’s husband…upon realizing that he..David…was the guilty party…he asked for forgiveness. Catch what the prophet said…’He forgave you before you asked’…what an incredible picture of God’s love, mercy and grace.

  15. Josh, I need your address. I just had to go to the Dr.’s office because I was tackled by a Security Guard at the local bookstore. He was mad that I was ripping I John 2 out of the Bible. I need to send you the bill. You said that Christ could not have died for the sins of the whole world and yet poor John (who was writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit) says He didn’t. I don’t want people to have something in their Bible that isn’t true so I’m heading back to the book store.

  16. Wow…did I ever say that salvation is “merely a puny human decision”? Did I ever deny that man is in a sinful state? The answer….NO!

If a DECISION is not involved…then why does the scripture put such an emphasis on reaching out to the lost?

    Jimmy,
I’m trying to have a conversation with you about the Word of God. Right now I am home for a short period of time but will soon be going back to a war in which I put my life on the line to give you the “freedon” to mock something I said, (Wow), and then shout at me with your (NO). This is not the brightest thing you should do to a navy seal.
I want to go back to the genius who is a greek scholar. Joe, you translate greek words and said that “whole” means whole but you disagree with my above comment that God hated Esau? Well hate means hate.
Also, how do you think individuals make a “decision”? God has to do a work of regeneration in the heart of that person first or there would be no decision.
Now the David story. The blood of Jesus Christ keeps on washing away our sins. God was merciful and gracious to forgive David. What you failed to include in this story is the fact that God said that what you sow is what you reap. David was forgiven but he paid a tremendous price for his sins. God spared Davids life but he took the life of his son, “the child also born to you shall surely die”.
For security reasons I will not be able to go to blog sites. But be respectful while I am away!!!!!

  17. Ike,
I know lots of Navy Seals–good friends with guys in three different teams. I sincerely doubt that you are actually one. I agree that hate means hate. I never and I mean never disagreed with that. I suspect however, you are a fraud and a liar.

  18. Ike….thank you for visiting.

No disrespect was meant in any way.

It is a shame that we can’t have a discussion and disagree without someone becoming mean sprited.

I guess Joe was right in his post ‘Conversation Is Dead’.

  19. I don’t understand Joe? But Jimmy, I would appreciate your prayers for me and my family while I go back over sea’s. This is always so difficult for my wife and children. Thanks.

  20. Ike,
If you are a Navy Seal (did you know the SEALS have the highest fraud rate–that is more people pretend to be SEALS then any other portion of the military, closely followed by Army Rangers.) you would have more self control than to make this statement:

Right now I am home for a short period of time but will soon be going back to a war in which I put my life on the line to give you the “freedon” to mock something I said, (Wow), and then shout at me with your (NO). This is not the brightest thing you should do to a navy seal.

I know too many Navy SEALS, they just don’t talk that way to people. It had nothing to do with the conversation at hand and it was borderline threatening. Being a SEAL is about power under control–there was no control or self restraint in that comment. Jimmy wasn’t mocking you.

Also, I get emails from my friends who are over there. Which team are you with? I’m sorry I just don’t believe you. You may be a sailor, you may be going back to Iraq, but I don’t believe you’re a SEAL. Of course that’s just my opinion.

  21. I was in Vietnam and who cares. Why don’t Ike and you guys stick to the subject at hand. Because I wasn’t in the special forces this might not count but I do believe God loves even porn stars. He loves everybody even all the people in hell. Go Army!!!!

  22. Rich,
I agree with you on God loving porn stars. That is why I wrote the article.
But I do care when people say something as a threat that probably isn’t true. Sorry man, I can’t let that pass.

  23. Joe-
I went to the VFW last night and yes I had a couple beers. Anyway I got talking to some of my buddies and came to some conclusions.
    1. You are correct that a real deal seal would not use his status in this context.
    2. If this guy is serving our country we honor that.
    3. Not me but the majority of the guys thought a picture of a real porn star would have been nice?

  24. Rich,

Yeah…Joe and I have been talking about this issue….it smacks to me of someone who likes to name drop. They only do it to make themselves look or feel more important than they really are.

If he does serve…God bless him….and give him a little more self esteem and self control.

  25. Was the beer Yuengling? Just kidding, you can’t get that here in Mi. I agree that if this guy is serving our country I want to honor that, but I also cannot let something else stand that seems by every account to be a lie.
    #3 made me laugh.

  26. God loves porn stars. He loves rapists. He loves murderers. He loves drunks and thiefs. Hard to believe? Why? I have never murdered or been a porn star, infact even though I didn’t grow up a christian I never even drank or had sex. But I was still as guilty as the convicted criminal. And until the day that I accpeted the free gift of salvation and decided to give my life and heart to Jesus I was just as bad as the worst sinner imaginable because we are all unholy and separated from God until we accept Jesus as our saviour.

To say that Jesus didn’t die for all mankind and that only some ‘elect’ or ‘chosen’ cheapens the price that my saviour had to pay for our souls. It’s offensive, it’s unbiblical it doesn’t match the heart and character of God to say that he picks and chooses between his children whether they should go to heaven or hell. Hell was not made for humans, it was made for satan and deamons.

God is a Father, he doesn’t see in percentages. It’s not like as long as 50% live with me for eternity then I can afford to send the other 50% to hell. What a load of garbage.

I pray you get a revelation of God’s love, you don’t know what you are missing out on.

  27. I believe in Grace of the cross.
Jesus Christ died for sinners. His death was the fathers way of paying the cost for sinners.
He had become a curse for us.It is true that there is an elect, the scripture’s say so.
God knows those who by faith from him will accept his gift of his sons death for their sins.
All mankind was included in this truth.Yet as many have believed as many have rejected.
Porn stars are still men and women created in gods image.Loved and adored. It is their chosen sin that he hates. But have all fallen short of the glory of god?Yes.
Jesus told mary,Go and sin no more.So he tells us to sin no more.
To sin and keep sinning is not what God asks of us.He infact knows the awefulness of it and punished his son for us.
Jesus was holy and sinless. The scripture’s explain that he died for sinners.Even between two sinners on that cross.
God is expressing his love for sinners in the porn industry all around the world.Men and woman are sinning no more.
I believe i am as sinful as these people and god see’s sin as sin.
I choose not to become a pornstar because Jesus has told me i am free by his grace, blood shed on the cross.
Please pray for porn stars, many are dying because of their sins, both spiritualy and physicaly.
Lets love those that are despised and hated.I never condone that the lifestyle of a sinner is right but i dont judge or condemm them either.
After all my sin was real before A holy God and with out the cross of jesus christ i would have died and been lost forever.
On a last note>>> jesus said, the truth indeed shall set you free.

  29. I am ashamed to even hear what you have to say. Saying that being a porn star is just as good as being a preist. Someone who dedicates themselves to the church and god’s will. Do you see the terrible things the porn industry is doing to the world? Maybe you should think about that before you say it’s okay to pervert society, pervert children who watch disgusting sexual material on the internet and that it’s okay to make a living selling your body’s flesh and selling your dignity because god loves us even if we do it.

  30. Chris…I have deleted your comments as you so persistantly insisted.

    HOWEVER…please keep the follwing in mind for the future;

    1. Make sure you read AND understand the post before commenting.
    2. Don’t comment unless you want the blogoshpere to see what you have to say.

  31. Joe…sorry I accidently deleted your comment as well….although…it doesn’t make much sense without Chris’ philisophical comments.

  32. I got tired of seeing his comments insisting they be removed. I figured it was best to get rid of him than to continue the really weird exchange.

  33. Hmmm….while we are at it…why don’t we kick out all of the liars, gluttons, covetors, adulterers, gossipers, back bitters and all of the self righteous hypocrites.

Clyde…that was probably the most un-christlike comment I have ever read.

  34. god loves porn stars – of course
but he don’t like the things pornstars do

    god loves all of us
but he just hate the things we do (sin)

    jesus sat arround with prostitutes…
Mt 21,32 “For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not; but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye saw it, did not even repent yourselves afterward, that ye might believe him.” (So if john spoke to harlots – jesus did it of course also)
Lk 7,34 The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold, a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners! (So they called jesus “friend of the sinners” (but not friend of the sin!!))
those prostitutes were some kind of pornostars in those times… if they could get their money with movies I think they would make some movies. jesus loves sinners (but he doesn’t love sin). He wants to forgive us our sins so that we are saved (because he loves us he doesn’t want that anybody get lost) – this is christian basic knowledge there shouldn’t be any questions about this theme.

search in google.com … there are some interessting storys from pornostars who convert to jesus and they tell their very hard story.

yes yes… porno is a big theme – everywhere. Many christians have problems with it.

    peter (germany)

  35. I find the whole calvinist predestination concept very offensive. If God sees most of the human race as nothing but fuel for the fires of hell, who are we to complain if some hellbound woman decides to abort her baby who was probably hellbound anyway? As Christians, we are called to care about people for the same reason Jesus cared about people . . . because God cares about people, intimately and self-sacrificially. That doesn’t mean condoning everything they do. It means seeing human beings as flawed and precious . . . and perhaps not out of reach of redemption. There are many who are actively seeking God’s grace, and I believe that God will compassionately respect and reward that. We can be instruments of God reaching out to a soul starved and parched of righteousness, or we can be the stumbling block that says, loud and clear, “There’s no God for you here.”

I know which one I choose.

  36. God loves everybody. He proved that by sending us His son Jesus Christ (remember that guy who died upon the Cross to save us from sin?)

  37. well im a pornstar and i love god and i have faith jesus christ so therefore i do not think that im going to hell..i do no harm to no one and every one on this page is a sinner..therefore no diffrent than me..god sees all sins the same…just cuz im a pornstar and you lie ans steal doesnt make us any diffrent…simple…no matter what..if u have faith..u will not go to hell..

  38. GOD DOES NOT LOVE SINNERS WHO DO NOT REPENT. God does love us all (his children) if GOD LOVED PORNSTARS THEN WHY WOULDNT HE ALLOW THEM INTO HEAVEN IF THEY DO NOT REPENT? lets not lie to the people here. IN PSALMS 5.5 it says GOD HATES ALL WORKERS OF SIN. i think its time to start preaching the truth about sin. THERE IS NO WAY GOD LOVES A SINNER WHO DOES NOT REPENT!!!!! lets look in the book of isaiah 45 when it talks about the wrath of GOD.

MY SIMPLE ANSWER IS GOD DOES NOT LOVE A PORNSTAR WHO HAS NOT REPENTED AND ACCEPTED JESUS CHIRIST AS THEIR SAVIOR!!!!!!!!!!

  39. Ok, Wilson.
Point of etiquette: It’s rude to use your caps lock button. It makes it sound like your shouting. having said that: I’LL SEE YOUR VERSES AND RAISE YOU JOHN 3:16 which says

FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WHOLE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY SON

Now, if you want to have a conversation we can but don’t cherry pick a few verses to the detriment of others and don’t come back here shouting. You’ll just get ignored.

  40. I see only one truth!!

    The God of the bible.
What does he have to say about porn?
Well,he isnt in favour of it,because he can see and know the damage it is doing to our mind, body and souls.

However, the bible tells us that he sent Jesus Christ to do some thing about it.
The cruel death he went to was infact a answer to this problem.
Porn is another word for pervert.
    Porneia…is in a way,perverted.

Now,we all know that Jesus was crucified, even the devil and his evil demons know it.The fallen angels are in a secret prison, unseen but real.

He hung not just in pain but the seperation in his spiritual being.
    That was the real cost.
He did this for our souls. It was the only real way.

After he had paid the ransom/debt owed to God the Holy father of creation.
This opened up a real path to enter into a real relationship with God almighty.

I wasnt there 2 thousand years ago in person but i was in spirit.
He died whilst we were absent in creation but not in spirit.
Infact his mind was set on us all.How great is this.

In a one short truthful and simple way.

    Christ died for us all.
Porn stars and all sex performers need this truth. And all those who watch it and enjoy it.

The blood of Christ is powerful enough to set us all free.A gift of Grace and rich in mercy.
Forgivness in full, acceptance and reconcilation to God.

It is an aweful truth that some will reject his offer of fullness for their souls.
There fore the lord gives them over to their evil passions and desires.
Infact he gives us all over to sin so that he can soak us in his infinate mercy…what a God! a holy and perfect God.

Today is the day of his Grace and mercy.Plese don’t wait until tommorrow!! He is here and now.

Merry Christmas & God bless to you all in the world, the young and old, weak and poor.
